Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with The Church at Agape Outpost in Summit County, Colorado as they search for their next Pastor of Leadership Development and Discipleship. The Church at Agape Outpost is a Christ centered, Bible based community known for its relational warmth, commitment to Scripture, and unique “outpost” identity; equipping and sending people into gospel ministry in a highly transient mountain community.

This newly created role comes at a pivotal moment in the life of the church. As the founding pastor looks toward a future transition, the Discipleship Pastor will help build and lead an intentional discipleship pathway that equips every person to live as a minister of the gospel. Success in this role means establishing clear systems, developing leaders, and cultivating a culture where people are discipled deeply; even if only for a season.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A self-starter who brings both vision and strong administrative follow through
  • Highly relational, able to quickly build trust in a transient and diverse community
  • Flexible and resilient, thriving in a constantly changing ministry environment
  • Comfortable engaging people with varied beliefs, speaking truth with grace and humility
  • Energized by equipping others and developing leaders, not just doing ministry alone

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Discipleship Pastor will lead the design and execution of a comprehensive discipleship strategy for the church, including small groups, leadership development, and a future internship program. This role is central to helping Agape live out its calling as an “outpost”; equipping people who may only be present for a short time but can carry the gospel impact globally.

In the first 12–18 months, success will look like launching a clear discipleship pathway, leading and shepherding the staff, strengthening volunteer engagement, and building relational credibility across both long term members and seasonal attendees. This role will serve as an elder, working within a collaborative, “flat table” leadership model alongside the pastor, existing elder team, and will contribute to the preaching rotation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, implement, and lead a church-wide discipleship strategy
  • Oversee and develop the small groups ministry, including leader training and care
  • Launch and lead an internship program focused on leadership and ministry development
  • Equip and empower volunteers to discover and use their spiritual gifts
  • Provide structure, systems, and processes to support sustainable ministry growth
  • Build relationships across a diverse and transient congregation
  • Collaborate closely with elders and staff within a shared leadership model
  • Contribute to the preaching rotation and overall spiritual leadership of the church
  • Provide oversight to office staff and key ministry volunteers
  • Engage the local community through relational and missional presence
