Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bulverde, TX, as they search for their next Director of Students and Family Discipleship. St. Paul Lutheran Church is a theologically conservative congregation who are serious about reaching and ministering to the community. St. Paul has a family culture and enjoys being together in the various worship gatherings and events of the church. With Pastor Luke’s coming a few years ago, there exists a reinvigoration and excitement for this new season of ministry.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Students and Family Discipleship at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bulverde, TX is a key leadership role designed around building lifelong discipleship pathways for children, youth, and families. This position emphasizes equipping parents as primary spiritual leaders, fostering meaningful relationships across generations, and partnering with volunteers to create sustainable gospel formation both inside and outside of weekly gatherings.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Relationships & Family Engagement

  • Build a strong relational presence among students, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • Foster a positive team culture marked by encouragement, collaboration, and shared mission.
  • Maintain regular, effective communication with families and students.
  • Build, maintain, and retain connections with students, parents, children, and the community outside the church walls.


2. Leadership Development & Team Care

  • Recruit, train, deploy, and care for volunteer leaders for children’s and student ministries.
  • Provide clear direction, coaching, and accountability for ministry teams.
  • Ensure alignment with the vision, mission, and values of St. Paul.
  • Shepherd volunteers spiritually and emotionally as they serve.


3. Planning & Programming

  • Lead and oversee confirmation ministry in collaboration with Lead Pastor.
  • Plan and coordinate camps, retreats, mission trips, and special events (VBS, etc.) with volunteers.
  • Develop a comprehensive discipleship plan for birth through high school that includes a strong family component—parent equipping, communication, and ongoing support.
  • Provide primary leadership/oversight for Sunday morning programs and midweek gatherings for children and students.
  • Ensure all volunteers meet and maintain safety and screening requirements.


4. Church Leadership & Pastoral Presence

  • Equip and encourage parents as the primary disciplers of their children.
  • Contribute to the overall pastoral care of the congregation as appropriate.
  • Participate in church-wide events, worship gatherings, and seasonal ministries as appropriate.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage actively in the relational life of St. Paul, mining our community for the relational connections necessary to build a ministry.
  • Manage and oversee administrative assistant and connected responsibilities with diligence, including communication, scheduling, safety processes, and documentation.
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with the Senior Pastor and leadership team.
  • Oversee the family ministry budget with stewardship and transparency.
